8+ years for two wars and other war on terror operations: $1.283 trillion

Just 1 year of government spending on means-tested social welfare programs: $1.03 trillion

Here's an article from a year and a half ago stating the cost was $3.7 trillion at that point.

Cost of war at least $3.7 trillion and counting | Reuters

I'd wager that it's grown some since then.

first off, when did president Obama ever say it would do that ? Other than when republicans said they would recalibrate the way COLA were made which would infact effect SS checks regardless of the president's pay.

The person who wrote that has no idea what they are talking about.

No, I think you like to lie. Why don't YOU take responsibility for the actions of YOUR party?

To blame ONLY the repubs is dishonest.

You also have a reading comprehension problem NO ONE has said Bush does carry responsibility as you claim.

The funniest things many on your side keep whining abort compromise and working together.

Then when BOTH parties and the president DO work together you want absolve the dems of ANY responsibility for the results of that compromise and working together.

there is a huge difference between Congressional approval and what Bush did the first 7 years of the war with funding.

That study counts bizarre things other than actual spending. Basically, it adds a lot of made-up stuff.

That Reuters article ALSO states that even Obama's White House says: "The White House says the total amount appropriated for war-related activities of the Department of Defense, intelligence and State Department since 2001 is about $1.3 trillion"

So, again, ACTUAL SPENDING:

8+ years for two wars and other war on terror operations: $1.283 trillion

Just 1 year of government spending on means-tested social welfare programs: $1.03 trillion

Obama agrees with the CRS report. From the Reuters article: "The White House says the total amount appropriated for war-related activities of the Department of Defense, intelligence and State Department since 2001 is about $1.3 trillion"

Even the Washington Post chimed in with this on the costs of the wars in 2008:
Quote:
President-elect Barack Obama's administration needs to monitor war spending much more closely than the current White House has, according to a new study that criticizes President Bush's approach to funding the Iraq and Afghanistan wars -- a bill that is projected to approach nearly $1 trillion next year. Even with declining troop numbers in Iraq, the direct price tag of the two wars could grow as high as $1.7 trillion by 2018
Study Criticizes Bush Approach to War Funding, Calls for Changes - Washington Post

Multiple sources. Similar reports of cost.
