BTW, my favorite photo of Obama EVA! Pls post a link to a high res, I wanna inkjet this trophy.

Skeet simulates shooting ducks while in descent from their migratory formation. In duck hunting, a thorough operation is set up. Hunters increase success by encouraging landing using decoys and remaining hidden behind blinds. Knowing the north-south migratory patterns, hunters stake their spot along the east or west banks of the pond. By having birds fly across and in front of the hunter's blind, sufficient time is provided to aim and take the shot before the duck lands (out of bounds in some jurisdictions or everywhere if you're a classy sporter). Because the shot is taken at a relatively fixed distance, hunters maximize their chances of hitting these moving targets by using bird shot and duck hunting patterned shotguns. Bird shot is useless the instant the duck starts to fly away. Shooting the hunter on the other side of the pond is also likely to happen, but since everyone is also using bird shot and wearing eye protection, it's unlikely for human penetration or harm.

Obama shows a stance of the other shotgun training training exercise, Trap. The hunter is now actively seeking prey, sometimes with the aid of a pointer (type of bird dog). As hunters stalk in one general direction, for safety, they remain keenly aware of anybody ahead, as the shot shells and narrow pattern shotguns are deadly at distances, but far less than a rouge rifle shot. Bunnies or ground nesting birds (pheasant, grouse, chuckers) all go away from you once flushed, so the shot is taken as soon as your heart starts beating again, as a flushing bird after hours of trekking through the silent backcountry (CHIN! CHIN! CHIN! CHIN! ... + WOOWOOWOOWOOSH flapping noises of a few lb bird high tailing away). One pheasant flush had me trip over myself backwards. That doesn't happen if you bring your pointer.

Trap shooing trains for the this flush and fly away method of shotgun hunting. Clay pigeons are tossed forward and low to the ground directly forward, from either side of the shooter. So, although the Administration is calling this Skeet shooting, his pose says otherwise.

BO, the first dog said the picture was made ahem, taken to satisfy "conspiracy theorists." Obama has never and will never own a gun or even tag along to a rifle range because he might dirty his paws sweeping brass. Trap and Skeet, fun, but Obama likes it because he can still keep his pinky in the air.

I still like the photo. So far we get photos of fun Obama on little girl's boogie board or doing his terrible golf stroke. Russia gets Putin with military rifle, Putin a shirtless stud riding a stud, him fishing. Until this photo, Putin was leaps and bounds more American than Obama.

Anybody want to offer a take on which form of hunting is more sporting? Duck hunting (set a trap) or Field hunting (it moves shoot it)?

For the skeet photo op his gun needs to be pointed up in to the air not straight out from him Those clay pigeons fly high...

Proper way to hold a gun and shoot trap. Only difference with Obama is he did it left handed and called it skeet.

Obama is starting to do what he does best, divide. This time with gun owners. I'm a shotgun guy, I swing a stick and yank a trigger. Rifle guys do it different. Where I see shotgun as a survival advantage, in a SHTF scenario all large game on the continent would be decimated in a few years leaving rifle folks at war with remaining game. Shotgun guy has been happily harvesting little critters here and there and will continue to do with increasing skill.P080412PS-0464 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Not when it's from the low house.

Daily Kos: Debunking the Skeeters

Debunking the Skeeters

Well, as anybody familiar with skeet shooting can tell you, there is a high house trap and a low house trap. The high house trap launches the clay pigeon from a height of about ten feet and the low house trap launches the clay pigeon from a height of about 3.5 feet. The high house is on the left side of the range and the low house is on the right side of the range. Shooting positions 1-7 are located around the semi-circle of the range with position 8 half way between the two houses. Let's look at a diagram of a typical skeet shooting range:

So, to demonstrate that the above photo was indeed take at Camp David, let's go to an aerial view of the Camp David skeet range:

Clearly, Barack Obama was firing from position 8 based upon all of this information, and was most likely firing at the clay pigeon launched from the low house, the roof of which you can see in the distance and slightly behind the president in the non-fake photo.

Of course, none of this will convince the Skeeters.
