I am similarly opposed to the death penalty, so no.

A good way to start is by abolishing much crime - ending the misguided and failed drug war would be a good first step.

The principle of supply and demand applies here - reduce the demand for prisons by not making people criminals, and then the situation becomes manageable.

Prisons can then be torn down.

Why does anything have to be done with them?

Who is occupying the prisons now? Mostly victims of the misguided and failed war on drugs.

Once that war is ended, then those people won't be in the prisons.

"Criminal" is an artificial term.

There are more criminals out there than drug users. I kill my wife, what happens to me?
How old are you anyway? Just curious.

Much to young to feel this damn old.

Tell me more of the circumstances behind you killing your wife(speaking hypothetically, of course). Motive, means, circumstances.

How can I decide what should "happen" to you if all I know is that you killed your wife?

That is a very general phrase.

For instance, did she attack you first?

Maybe they feel threatened.

Black vs. Hispanic animosity runs deep in this area.

I don't condone it, but I do acknowledge reality.

Everyone wants peace - they just don't know how to attain it.

You would have to live in southern California to understand.

I lived in Southern California for 10 years and what you're saying is BS. Yes there is racial tension between Blacks and Latinos, especially in prison. That is a problem - falls right into the divide and conquer category and really should stop. Clearly you are okay with violence against Blacks. Not only did the idiot thugs who attacked this boy contribute to the crime rate, they also failed to realize is that Compton is still politcally controlled by Blacks, who still make up a large portion of the population there and they are only drawing attention to this issue. On top of that these idiots may have just started a gang war. Get a grip on reality please, you must be on some of that good medicinal stuff.

WTF???
Quote:

Jeffrey Aguilar, 19, of Compton, and Efren Marquez, 21, of Riverside County, along with a juvenile, were arrested Thursday for trying to intimidate an African-American family into moving away from their Compton home. The three Latino gang members chased home one of the sons on Dec. 31. The family had just moved into their home on 153rd Street.
"They threatened him, they shouted racial epithets at him, they jumped out of a van and they beat him with pipes and pointed a gun at him and told him that he had to stay out of the neighborhood," said Sheriff's Lt. Rich Westin.
Thirty minutes later, a neighbor heard shouting at the victim's home. There were 15 to 20 male Hispanics armed with pipes, two with guns, yelling at them to come outside.
Investigators said the three Latinos beat a friend of the family with a pipe before calling on nearly 20 alleged gang members to target the family's home.
Peaceful?

Lets say my wife is black and I killed her as a hate crime. What is my fate in your ideal prisonless society?

Are you also black in this hypothetical situation?

Whether you are or not, why should there be a "hate crime statute" - why should some lives be deemed more valuable than others because politicians want to pander to voters why sowing division, rather than fostering unity?

As for your fate? Who is the victim - besides your wife?

Seems like your fate should be left to the family - and if you felt that killing your wife was the only option that you had, then you should get some psychological and/or spiritual help.

I am not "okay" with any such violence against anyone. I am simply saying that I am not surprised by what happened.

Clearly, you have a chip on your shoulder, and speaking of divide and conquer, you are doing a pretty good job of that yourself.

When you are blinded by color, you cannot see clearly.
