Maybe... but... here we are. So.... what then? Nothing...?? You couldn't get away with that at work. If your boss was demanding answers and all you had was... "well... you know how it is..." you'd be looking for a new job. Actually, if MSM was really effective and all the sundry shootings that go unreported actually were... all 15,000 of them... so I'll take your "hundreds of years" with a grain of salt if you don't mind. Mass shootings are in fact very new and MSM was quite advanced long, long before civil society broke down to the point where random gun violence was epidemic.
