Where the hell did you learn that? Rome fell due to economic reasons
Causation --- Correlation.
Hey, we are constantly treated to tidbits about Rome falling because of its moral decadence, etc.... yet Rome was at its HEIGHT of power when it was most decadent sexually.
Surely, Rome's problems were much more complex than Christianity, but it's nice that you can pick out my quote while bypassing such nonsense as that posited by "Bettafish" that moral crises precede falling empires.
Once Prop 8 makes it to the SCOTUS on the merits, today's decision will likely result in it's being overturned. Till then it stands.
You - you have no idea what you're talking about, do you? Two lower courts turned down Prop 8, but its backers kept appealing. Today the Supremes found that the backers of Prop 8 had no standing to defend it in Federal court. This means that the Lower Court ruling stands. The Lower Court that, to recap, found against Prop 8.
Your freedom of religion does not mean you can use your religion to deny people rights. Practice it how you like, but keep it out of the lives of those who do not want it.
Morality is not defined by those who benefit from a certain agenda.
When they are being denied equal protection and rights, yes it most certainly is. Were women not moral in their cause for voting rights? Were blacks not moral in their cause to end segregation? Different situations, of course, but still a group of people facing unjustified discrimination. Same case here.
Perhaps all those churches who blew though their parishioner's money to buy ads and banners and posters will get back to feeding the hungry and clothing the naked?
I'm sure the local homeless shelters could have used the $39 million spent to support Prop 8.

Nope. The Court claimed to not have standing because true representatives of the the state of California have declined to defend the proposition. Therefore the lower court's decision against Prop 8 stands.

And SCOTUS tacitly said that states are still allowed to discriminate if they so choose. All those constitutional bans stand.
If I am forced to support gay unions financially while I believe them to be immoral, then my religion is being violated by the government. They are forcing me to support immorality. The government does not use tax-money to support abortion for the very same reason, but I suspect that will soon change too.
Start paying taxes on your clubhouses, and you'll have a financial argument. Until you start giving unto Caesar what is Caesar's, stay out of matters of state.

But even the most immoral nations can go without collapsing if they have a firm fiscal policy. Some would claim China is a good example of that..
