The middle class is so screwed.

Obama is so lame, he's willing to trade cuts in your SS benefits to lure the GOP will into moderately raising taxes on those earning over $250K per year.

NYT today

"He particularly believes that Democrats do not receive enough credit for their willingness to accept cuts in Medicare and Social Security, while Republicans oppose almost any tax increase to reduce the deficit".

Believe it or not, this guy is more harmful to Democrats than a GOP President would have been.

He's moved the bar so far to his right, betraying his base, unwilling to fight for any middle class benefits.

The damage he's done to the working class will linger for Decades.

Enjoy your 20% cut to SS benefits young people, because that's the price Obama and the GOP will charge for moderately raising taxes on rich people.

Yes provide the link BUT, we have no choice but to do both. I'm not going to slam him here in general but I will for the options picked to start.

We are $16 trillion in debt. There is no money in S.S. Politicians have squandered it. There will have to be some raising of new revenue and cuts.

Now I will slam politicians for starting off on something like S.S. when there are programs with billions of dollars worth of waste and fraud that could be targeted first.

Or Obama could do as promised and bring all of our soldiers home.

Jeebus...this is the only thing that the President has insinuated that is right.

It's sort of offensive to imply that, in a time of necessitated austerity, none of you (who created the problem) should have to suffer like the rest of us.

How about the congress, senate, president and staff take a 20% cut? How about all of the pensions going out to former politicians get cut?

Why is the threat always on the elderly?

He makes me physically sick.

Unfortunately, changes to social security are going to come no matter who wins the election. The system wasn't designed for a population of seniors who are living into their eighties. It will probably be in the form of increasing the age where you become eligible as has already happened in a number of European countries.

Lets face it, we are a divided country that of course has birthed a divided goverment and to move forward there has to be some common ground and compromise. We can stick to our guns and keep moving forward and watch our country crash or get half our way. This could be a good horse trade? both sides have something they like and something they strongly disagree with.

Untrue, SS is a manageable long term deficit that could be eliminated by lifting the tax cap on high incomes.

Nobody, needs to endure cuts to their SS. Only people ignorant of SS finances lazily assume this right wing rhetoric is true.

Here is the link to the NYT's quote of Obama

"Obama is a socialist and I hate him for it. Obama is open to cutting funding from social programs and I hate him for it."

You conservatives need to get your story straight.

If Republicans had agreed to cutting the bloated defense budget without also making cuts to SS & MC, the WH wouldn't have had to compromise. It's probably right there in the link you refuse to post.
