The US Embassy is in Tel Aviv and there is a USA Consulate in Jerusalem. There can only be one embassy representing a country but there can be several consulates (which rank lower than an embassy).

Again Jerusalem is the capital of Israel just like Washington, D.C. is the capital of the USA.

Default Why is Romney kissing up to Israel?

He's trying to suck up to the religious right weirdos, because Israel plays an important part in their "rapture" fantasy.

For the same reason Hillary changed her tone towards Israel around the time she decided to run for a NY Senate seat.

For the same reason that Obama and Romney will be down in Florida trying to woo anti-cuban voters.

There are a number of traditionally democratic groups that aren't super happy with Obama. It's not that they will go vote for Romney that is the problem but that they are just "unenthused" and will just skip the election.

The enthusiasm gap for previous Obama voters is the reason romney has any shot at all in this election.

It is not internationally recognized as the capital. For myself, I could care less. That is an issue for them and their neighbors to work out. They can call bangladesh their capital if they want to. I just don't want to send them any more money or free weapons. We had no enemies in the middle east until Israel became our friend. We need to end this unholy alliance and let them fend for themselves.

Yeah, because Romney is really going to lose the religious right vote to Obama? Seriously?

Now calm down, I know you have election year derangement syndrome but pull out a map.
Notice some pivotal swing states like Florida? Lots of jewish people in Florida and while they generally vote Dem, Obama hasn't exactly wowed them on the topic of Israel. (right or wrong).

Same reason a Republican won Wieners seat after he resigned....something almost mindboggling in a district with heavy dem voting tendancies.

Israel is an issue that you can split off votes from Obama on in a key state, this is election strategy 101. Nothing more, nothing less.

Romney is kissing Israeli butt to get Jewish money and votes in the next election. He could care less about Jews except for believing they killed Jesus Christ which they did not.

Your premise, not mine.

Romney's mormonism may keep some of the mouth-breathing fundies home on election day unless he can give them some indication that he's really one of them.

Regardless of how one feels about Israel, this is a butchery of History at best.

Many of our problems in the middle east stem from the cold war.

Most of the M.E. nations don't really care all that much about Palestine and Israel except for street cred with the masses. They make a great boogeyman for all of the ills felt by the people living under dictatorships, kings and whatnot.
