How is this not a violation of the 1st and 14th amendment? How is this any different than banning interracial marriages? You can say being gay is a choice, but marrying someone of a different race is also a choice.

I think this is a great example of why voting on minority rights should not be legal. Those rights are already outlined in the constitution and should be decided by judges. This doesn't even seem legal, and definitely not moral.

Shame on North Carolinians.
If you see marriage as a "contract" then you have no business getting married.

Forced association? How do you stop associating with an entire group of people unless you go into self-imposed isolation? It's certainly your right to do so, I'm just trying to figure out how that's even feasible without isolating yourself from most of society. How would you even know if a person is gay or not? You can't go by the stereotypes of what some people seem to think a gay man or lesbian looks like. Like I said, they tend to blend in. The sneaky rascals. They're everywhere. And being around gay people in general isn't really "associating with their lifestyle." I mean, if you have a gay co-worker or a gay person waits on you in a restaurant, what exactly do you think is going to happen to you? Nobody's going to force you to hang out at the guy's house with him and his partner. Oy vey!

Have a stateless society Let people roam free to form their own civilizations that are conducive to their preferences. Simple!

Umm...what is it - if not a contract?

Two centuries later and yet this country still will not adhere to the first constitutional ammendment. TWO CENTURIES and yet we still haven't adapted and theocratic law is still being imposed. Shame.

Well said.

Now - what does that have to do with the topic under discussion?

You are certainly free to do that at this very moment. Nobody is forcing you to stay in the US, with our imposed states and forced association. There's a big world out there. Go explore. But surely you don't expect the United States to turn into a stateless society just to keep you from having to be in the same room with gay people?

I still do not understand why homosexuals focus so much on an institution that was born without them included!!

Why? lol

if homosexuals would just accept civil unions and leave marriage to the religious nut jobs....everything would be fine! But the homosexual crowd wants to be antagonist. ...

And unstoppable object meets immovable wall......you know the rest.

This thread could go on for a thousand more pages, kept up by homophobes letting us know how gross gay sex is, and people with more than four brain cells trying to reason with them. But it clearly isn't working, because you'd rather stubbornly cling to your bigotry than try to accept, or at the very least, ignore a lifestyle you don't agree with.

Ironically, however, you cry "THEY'RE OPPRESSING US WITH THEIR GAYNESS" as you seek to actually oppress them through hateful, hurtful and pointless laws. Your hate legislation exposes you for the phonies you really are, claiming freedom and small government are what this country really needs as you actively seek the exact opposite. Though YOU can't see it, we can. Good thing you're a dying breed.
