I hope I'm right too. I'm looking forward to every single gay marriage ban in this nation being struck down. I wish they'd do it today so that gay and lesbian Americans are not denied equal rights a day longer.
Well, for starters the 14th Amendment (the highest form of federal law) applies directly to marriage laws (see interracial marriage bans for a very concrete example). There are also many federal laws that extend to married couples various federal-level civil rights. Finally, the most invidious federal law that speaks about marriage would be DOMA.
