How is it that Brazil, one of the largest consumers of energy in the world, is so far ahead of us? They export more fuel than they consume. They are energy independent.

We on the other hand have no control over the cost of fuel in our country. As fuel prices grow higher and higher, we are left with no alternatives.

How did Brazil do it?

1. The State has a majority interest in the Oil Companies. They control them. They can control both output and cost.

2. The Country is leading producer of ethanol in the world. Global exporter.

3. Big Oil does not control the govt. The govt. controls big oil.

4. Sounds like a good plan. It obviously is working.

For those who say that our system is better, the facts say different. We are completely dependent on outside oil. We are net losers not winners.

Brazil's Road to Energy Independence

The Goverment there is big oil! They are completing plans for 1 gig Heavy oil power plant as well ( bid went top MAN diesel)! It's easy to make lots of power cheap if you don't have that pesky EPA after you! They're Goverment gets to shoot people in the head at will too! Move down there if it's so wonderful!

Now if we could only get them to stop mowing down the Amazon for ranches and farms that inevitably fail within a few years, due to the poor soil.

The Brazilian energy independence plan sounds like a good plan for a gov't that isn't controlled by Big Oil. How do we get one of those?

The country controls the oil and citizens get to elect the officials so in essence the people control big oil. Wow. Sounds kind of good.

The fact is that they are energy independent. You don't have to adopt there whole govt. to emulate one thing that they do well.

In business, that is called emulating best practices. As it applies to energy theirs are better...why not emulate? The facts are there. You can look at the score card and tell that they are winning.

Could it partially be because America spent 2 billion dollars subsidizing their oil industry?

Quote:
The U.S. Export-Import Bank invested more than $2 billion with Brazil's state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration.

Gulf Oil CEO: Obama
Actually no as Brazil was energy independent before Obama as well the U.S. was energy dependent before Obama.

Certainly nothing has changed since the Obama administration.

Brazilians live like peasants. If Brazil is so great why are their citizens coming into the U.S. illegally in droves?

We are talking about one aspect of Brazil. Actually I have no idea as to how they live. The issue here is that they are energy independent. How does a "peasant" country accomplish that while we remain dependent on the middle east and big oil. Sad really.

You can elect the CEO and board if you choose to be a stockholder in corporations.

Silly statists.
