I never knew George washington or Federick Douglass was Spanish.

we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...

Who founded the U.S.A? The Spanish or the English?

Because in the US anglo culture and English are number 1. Florida: maybe the Hispanics should've followed Indian culture? Sorry guy; that don't work cause the Indians were too weak to win.

As many liberals and some conservatives would say; it's called Darwinism.

IMHO - the Hispanics seem to be assimilating quite well. It is the poor frightened Anglos that are having the problem just like they did when the Irish, Eastern Europeans and Italians immigrated a few generations ago. It appears that the WASPs are very insecure about their culture’s ability to remain pure after being exposed to the horrors of strangers’ immigration to the country.

Of course immigrants should conform to the customes, language and culture of the land they CHOSE to immigrate to. Try to be a proud Brazilian in Mexico What a silly question...

You forgot the fact that the many Americans fought and died fighting with the Spanish for this land. You forgot that they WON.
The Spanish here were conquered but even that is not a topic here. We are not talking about the Spanish that have been living in Texas in New Mexico for generations, most of them do not even speak Spanish unless they learned it in school. We are talking about recent immigrants who refuse to obey the laws and respect the culture of land that gave them jobs and security. Nobody forced anybody to come to America. You want to live here act like and American.

Well, some of us don't think that how Mexico functions as a country should be a model for the USA.

First of all not just Anglos but most Americans in general: Italian-Americans or Polish-Americans share the exact same sentiments. You also forgot that it was not the Spanish but the Americans who fought for independence and success of this land. Now Americans are simply afraid that Spanish speaking newcomers will turn this successful country into another Latin American hell hole. Don't we have enough of those already?

Just look at Latin America, one economical and social disaster after another, that's why so many Hispanics leave their countries and come here. If they were smart they would quickly learn English, assimilate and try to preserve what American stands for. Since they are not that smart, as the economic state of Latin American countries proves, they risk that their Spanish culture will turn this successful country into exactly what they CHOSE to run away from. Stupid.
