I don't recall the Amish being involved in politics much, and I'm pretty sure they aren't a mega-rich religious institution that tries to force their views into public policy. Can't recall seeing an Amish farmers raising hell about gay marriage. The Catholic church OTOH, they DO want to force their views into politics and have laws passed that affect everyone including those who don't follow their belief system.

If they want to stick their nose in government constantly and push agendas that affect EVERYONE, they should be affected by the government agendas when they don't work out the way the Catholic church wants.

as the females out there keep saying "its my body, my choice"....well...it is your body, your choice, your health...and your BILL...pay your own darn bill...dont EXPECT (entitlement) someone else to pay it for you
I've skipped some of this thread, so if a response has been posted to this I apologize.

Decades ago, insurance basically just paid for hospitalization and "major medical". People went into the hospital for "tests" b/c that was the only way to get them paid for. People were admitted to the hospital a few days early in some cases for "preparation", ditto. Then health care advocates pointed out to the insurers that such was expensive; it was much cheaper to do these tests and pay for them w/o hospitalization if there was no other need to hospitalize the person. The two groups got in bed together and what we have today is insurers making it practically impossible for anyone to go to the hospital for any reason.

In the early 80s, HMOs came into widespread use. The idea was, as the name implies, to pay the insurance company to keep you well. Thus, preventive care such as immunizations, and early detection care such as paps, mammograms, etc came to be covered. Traditional health insurers followed suit. There is good research to show that such coverage does improve immunization rates and cancer screening rates.

I get very annoyed at the comparisons to auto and homeowners insurance, as if they are all the same issue.

1. There are many areas that are not serviced by Planned Parenthood.

2. You would have to be extremely poor to get BCP for free from PP. They use a sliding scale. Most working women would probably have to pay at the top of the scale.

But then again I'm not stupid enough to have children in a world I know is going to be ruled by retarded as folks who love to use Darwin as a role model but hate his freaking thesis.
Stay classy, Jon!

Today's NY Times has an op-ed that quotes several Santorum speeches and Q/A going back only several years, and makes the point that he wants to repeal the 1960s, which he see pure and simple as "sex." Sex rules everything. Sex equal liberal. sex sex sexsex
I'm amazed he had time or energy to produce seven or so children, given how obsessed he clearly is about sex. I think many who support him have the underlying issue of the perceived rot of the 1960s equals all the problems of today and that sex equals the 1960s, which equals women getting out from under the thumb of legal and personal oppression and lack of choices in every sphere.
He is genuinely obsessed. I honestly think he is a bit nuts, not because I disagree with him, but because I think he is obsessed and off-kilter.
He has denounced Rush Limbaugh's recent statements. That is proof to me that we have crossed yet another line into the Bizarro world.
