For experimental small pox vaccine

$443 million for a smallpox drug some experts say we don't need - latimes.com

A company controlled by a longtime political donor gets a no-bid contract to supply an experimental remedy for a threat that may not exist.

Quote:
Over the last year, the Obama administration has aggressively pushed a $433-million plan to buy an experimental smallpox drug, despite uncertainty over whether it is needed or will work.

When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company's financial demands, senior officials replaced the government's lead negotiator for the deal, interviews and documents show.

When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing.
I thought obama was going to make decisions based on the "science". It appears the "science" says this is not needed (we already have a stockpile of SP vaccine) and no one knows if it will work.

But, what does that matter when you have a billion dollar donor looking for a little payback?

A little no bid contract and administration officials working tirelessly to make it happen.

Not when the profit point is 180%, an amount deemed OUTRAGEOUS and so far beyond the norm.....but then the administration just went ahead and REPLACE the lead negotiator for someone more amenable to giving this company the best possible profit point they could.

THIS is what you call crony capitalism.

Just wow - read the piece.

Do you know the profit margin from a bottle of Kettle One to that vodka martini you're having- a heck of a lot more than 180%.

Do you know there is a difference when an individual willfully purchases a martini with their own money vs. having taxes forcibly taken from their check and given to the friend of the president?

Did you read the piece? Totally and completely outrageous and out of the normal range of what the government would agree to.

So what did the obama admin do? Replaced the lead negotiator with someone who would approve such a cushy deal for the company.

Is that really all you have to say about it?

I thought this was the kind of stuff the Left hated.

But, but, but, this wasn't supposed to happen with the savior, was it?

This was supposed to be eschewed with HopeNChange, remember?

And the "science", remember obama said that "science" would steer his decisions?

Man, the GOP/RNC, conservative groups are going to have a field day with this and the rest of his crony capitalism paybacks (Solyndra).

What happens when the same thing happens when a Republican is in office? Crickets from the righties and then the lefties go ballistic (like the righties currently are). We hear nothing from both the Dems and the Reps when it's their POTUS doing it.

I think it's time we all grew up and stopped being so damned partisan. The majority of Americans are moderates, and I am sick and tired of the extremists on both the left and the right controlling the dialogue. Aren't you? The US has big problems, and yet we are gridlocked because both sides love to preserve the status quo, grease the palms of their buddies, and engage in this non-stop gotcha-fest against their opponents. WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE (from both sides of the aisle) WHO ACTUALLY WORK FOR A LIVING AND BUILT/BUILD THIS COUNTRY?

I've got news for both sides: neither of you is going to silence the other because you disagree with their opinions. Neither of you will ever be rid of the other so you better had learn to start tolerating each other and working together again or it will be the end of the US as we know it.

The Republicans made the same promises and renegged on them too. The two parties are much more alike then they are different. They just sing their siren songs to different crowds to get elected. Don't kid yourself, your side of the aisle is every bit as dirty.

Enjoy your political football game as the US crumbles around us.
