Banks and stores throughout California, Vegas and elsewhere have accepted the illegal alien passport as ID for a long time to do business and to let them buy things and access their debit card. ??????
My US issued drivers license and passport are valid in Mexico, Canada, and many countries in Europe. You would know this if you traveled internationally.
Mexico requires you to have at least a travel card issued by their consulate. You are expected to abide by Mexico's travel and tourist and immigration laws if you go to Mexico. And you can be deported if you do not.
Perhaps the problem is with that pesky terminology, "ID." As in, identification. If an officially issued card proves who you are, then it shouldn't matter if you happen to be showing it to a police officer in Mexico, California, or Uzbekistan. Nobody has said anything about a Mexican ID being used to, let's say, get a job, or register to vote, right?
US drivers' licenses are considered valid ID in Europe.
Your point?
"Two law enforcement agencies in northern California will start accepting Mexican consular cards as a valid form of identification to help reduce the number of deportations in the area and lower the number of people jailed for minor offenses, The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported.
Under the former policy, a Mexican national without proper ID could be jailed without ever being convicted of an offense. To be sure, after being fingerprinted, they would remain incarcerated until being handed over to immigration agents, the paper reported. Under the new policy, Mexican nationals with the ID would be allowed to go free as long as they're not suspected of any other offense."
Turns out he's correct - if you want to go beyond the border zone, you'll need an FMM card.
