As a Democrat, I think Obama should support the Keystone oil pipeline. This is a hot issue with liberals and environmentalists. As long as it is done safely, I think it would be good for the US and Canadian economies. I would rather see the US getting oil from an ally and trading partner, Canada, than from the other countries we import oil from.

I think my liberal friends should realize that if we get oil closer to home, that means we will be using less oil in the long run just based on the fact that the oil will travel a lot less distance to get to the US.

Why not just drill in Alaska? You know, in our own territory?

You attribute intelligence to liberals and environmentalists when it comes to the welfare of the United States, I fear your supposition is unfounded...

I think their hearts are in the right place, they just need to realize getting off oil is a long-term goal and can't happen too quickly. I think we need to get off oil, but as part of that transition I would rather get it from Canada in the present and future until that reality can actually happen.

Keith Stone is so smooth, he could probably convince the left to not get all bent out of shape about the issue.

being a pipeliner, I can assure you that the land is left in better than when it was found. This project was a union project which is held to the highest of standards. Seeing as how the unions support Obama, I feel a strong backlash from them coming in November. For the record I didn't vote for him...I smelled the rat the first time I saw him in the Democratic primary.

I think we'll get off oil sooner than we deplete all oil fields in Alaska if we start drilling there now.

Kudos to you, Winter_Sucks! I can't count the issues we disagree on, but this is a great point of view.

That oil is coming out of the ground, and it is going places. Some of it by rail and truck to the US...far worse environmentally than the pipeline. Some of it to ports for export to Asia and other countries..far worse politically than coming to the US.

Too bad Obama has voted "present" on this issue, punting until after the election.

Do we have any assurances that the oil will be used here? Why wouldn't the oil companies just put it on a tanker in TX and ship it to China? Definitely not worth the potential environmental impact at home if we're not even going to see a benefit.
