I'm 36 years old--do you really suppose I've met no soldiers or ex-soldiers?
The ones that stole your girlfriend don't count.

So anti-politics that he gave strident speeches in favor of John Brown?

Heh...the only good thing about war is that the gung-ho idiots go off and get killed while the rest of us stay home and improve the gene pool. Unfortunately the idiots don't just stick to killing people of their own ilk.

The smart ones dont get killed, and they seem to be doing more to improve the gene pool than the anarchists.

Si vis pacem, para bellum is a Latin adage translated as, "If you wish for peace, prepare for war" (usually interpreted as meaning peace through strength—a strong society being less likely to be attacked by enemies). The adage is from 4th or 5th century Latin author Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus's tract De Re Militari.

There are some wicked people in the world that don't share your pacifist sentiments.

Prepare for war, not start a war. If we as a country are prepared for war, and stay home, our homeland will be more secure and less likely to be attacked (see southern boarder) than if we ignore things that happen here, and spread our military thin across the world.

You haven't written anything in this thread (up to this point) that argues against what the poster has written. You just insult, laugh, and walk away. Your arrogance is the problem and your ignorance is the excuse. Until you can counter these arguments with something substantive and real, you need to make another note to yourself: keep hands off keyboard.

"YOUNG MEN: The lowest aim in your life is to become a soldier. The good soldier never tries to distinguish right from wrong. He never thinks; never reasons; he only obeys. If he is ordered to fire on his fellow citizens, on his friends, on his neighbors, on his relatives, he obeys without hesitation. If he is ordered to fire down a crowded street when the poor are clamoring for bread, he obeys and see the grey hairs of age stained with red and the life tide gushing from the breasts of women, feeling neither remorse nor sympathy. If he is ordered off as a firing squad to execute a hero or benefactor, he fires without hesitation, though he knows the bullet will pierce the noblest heart that ever beat in human breast.
A good soldier is a blind, heartless, soulless, murderous machine. He is not a man. He is not a brute, for brutes kill only in self defense. All that is human in him, all that is divine in him, all that constitutes the man has been sworn away when he took the enlistment roll. His mind, his conscience, aye, his very soul, are in the keeping of his officer. No man can fall lower than a soldier—it is a depth beneath which we cannot go." -Jack London

That'sbecause those of us over 12 can recognize moronic, trolling posts that are usually not worth a response.

The poster in this thread who I have on ignore - it knows who I refer to - is a perfect example, and kshe does as well.

DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.
