Poll after poll shows that the American people want higher taxes. That's not the same as liking higher taxes. The people have simply concluded that higher taxes are preferable to the alternative -- so vividly portrayed in the Republican plan to do away with government guarantees in Medicare.

What do the American people think? A Quinnipiac poll found that 69 percent, including nearly half of Republicans, want taxes raised on households making more than $250,000. A later Ipsos/Reuters polls shows three-fifths wanting to raise taxes to cut the deficit

RealClearPolitics - The People Want Higher Taxes

Wonder why the GOP is not listening to the American people.

Like the Democrats listened to the American people on Obamacare?

We have a spending problem, not a revenue problem. When the liberals start collecting money from the 50%+ who don't pay ANY income taxes, then I *might* be willing to go back to those evil "rich" people and ask for some more.

Looks like the GOP is getting ready to blink on the debt ceiling showdown:

Not sure if serious. Revenue (as % of GDP) are an all-time low. We DO have a revenue problem. However, I do agree that all the loopholes in the tax code have to be closed. And the Capital Gains tax could be increased or fixed because it's totally laughable that Buffett's secretary has a higher tax burden than him.

Quote:
Mr Buffett said that he was taxed at 17.7 per cent on the $46 million he made last year, without trying to avoid paying higher taxes, while his secretary, who earned $60,000, was taxed at 30 per cent.

When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

No one will blink at taxes at all if we feel our money is being taken care of and disposed of well. Right now, they might as well set it on fire.

p.s. Op, what people are you talking about? I don't know many people who agree with what you're saying 'most people' want.

I guess I need to start answering the opinion polls when they call but I'm usually too busy working.

Valid poll. I mean, I'm sure the majority of people, especially the ones making under 20K, who voted yes in that poll are voting that they themselves should pay more in taxes.

No? Well golly gee...

Too bad no one can demonstrate that Franklin ever said such a thing.
