In Wisconsin, the Democrats are wanting to compromise, Republicans are refusing to compromise. Even though polls show a majority of the state wants Republicans to do so.
In a federal shutdown, the Democrats again are willing to compromise, while Republicans are refusing to compromise. Even though polls show that a majority of the population wants them to do so.
Wrong on both accounts.
They were put in office in January, elected in November. It was clear we were headed in the wrong direction. The people spoke November 2nd, 2010.
The Repubs seem to be intent on having a Shutdown. What will it entail?
Possible Government Shutdown Puts Local Jobs in Jeopardy - Local News - Hagerstown, MD - msnbc.com (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41956488 - broken link)
It's interesting that although the article talks about the impact on local jobs, people see the thread title and take it as another opportunity to slam the federal government.
Roughly 3 of every 4 federal workers would remain on the job. Most people won't notice any impact. However,
Quote:
The IRS wouldn't answer its taxpayer hotline - at the height of tax-filing season. Under IRS precedents, the agency would process tax returns that contain payments. But people getting refunds would have to wait.
National Parks would be closed, and that's not insignificant. There are 394 national parks all over the place (except Delaware), and in 2009, more than 285 million people visited the parks. A shutdown of the federal government has the potential for a noticeable economic impact on the communities near the parks.

Locally, the tourism industry would be hurt as all of the free museums would be closed. Certainly an impact to the hotel and restaurant industry in DC.
Countdown begins for the Republican Shutdown --- days away 9
I know, I'm just beyond pi$$ed over this.
If you work for the Feds it SUCKS to be working under a CRA and I'm just sick that none of these ninnys on BOTH sides can do this.
I say if they can come to a resolution by April 8th, they need to be locked in, pull out the cots, get a few pizza places on speed dial and tell them they CANNOT leave.
I know, I know, Cafe Milano might suffer a bit but oh well.
Great way to compromise. Run away and hold your breath until you turn blue.
Polls, schmolls. The only important poll is held in November. And no matter how many union thugs take the day off and try to intimidate them, the American people have had it up to here with unfunded giveaways. There`s no more slop in the trough.
Period.
Exactly. This is not a Democracy where the people get to vote on every issue. We have a Republic where you vote ONCE for legistators and they do what they want. If you don't like it, then elect different ones in two years.
