Victors celebrate their victories. Only victims celebrate their disasters. Which is why 9/11 is as meaningless as Pearl Harbor Day and all those other days which 'live in infamy' because somebody decided the horror should be replayed and relived every year.
Somebody wrote that if I lived in the Northeast at that time, I would have been affected differently. OK, I guess if you were my twin and you watched as I was raped at age 4, you'd be affected differently. But why must we concern ourselves over events that did not happen to us? Isn't that the first lesson in Emotional Rape 101? "These people suffered, so now you're going to suffer too!" "We mustn't/can't forget!" Why? I don't relive my rape every day so why would I go out of my way to remember or reflect on events that involved my suffering or the suffering of others? Does grandma celebrate the loss of her leg to diabetes every year? Of course not.
We are stupid to dwell on the horror of the past because it drags us down in the present. Few people realize the awesome power of thoughts and emotions. Why do you think there's so much blood and violence in movies and on television? To make you afraid! To weaken you! Duh! Same thing goes for these remembrances and dedications to 9/11 and its victims. The only reason we insist on recalling the pain is to keep the rage alive, to keep the idea that you can again be victimized, and to provide focus to an enemy for some as yet unmanifested event.
You can't have peace if all you do is celebrate where you were wronged.
The world trade building even couting only deaths is not the worse day by far.The Galveston hurricane killed many more and actaully more in property value alone.
Wasn't meant to be. There's nothing for me to mourn. I have NO tie to NYC, and I actually had a GOOD day that day. Like I said, it was the day I started a new job.
