[Danger, Will Robinson, Danger]
What you know about politics has been carefully crafted by the world's greatest propaganda ministry.
If you take time to actually read the law, in the public record, available in any county courthouse law library, you will have a different appreciation of the situation.
Before I was compelled by my own situation to investigate law, I would have not disagreed with your observations.
But after spending enough time wading through legalese, it becomes painfully obvious that Americans have been sheared like sheeple that they have become.
"They" (the real power) trust that apathy and ignorance will triumph. And from reading the many posts on this site, they have no need to worry - 99.9% of Americans are clueless.
In fact, most Americans are misled into cooperating with their tormentors, who demand our gratitude that they let us regrow our skin before they skin us again.
"Voluntary slavery" via fraud and deception is still slavery.
"Part time slavery" is still slavery.
And the sad truth, inscribed in the law, is that "we, the people" volunteered to be slaves.
Few know how and when they did so.
I will give you a hint...
Declaration of Independence (1776) declares that government's job #1 = secure rights (to life, liberty, etc) and job #2 = govern those who consent.
In the Articles of Confederation and the USCON, the government has the power to activate the "militia" and order them to train, enter into combat, and die, if necessary.
The militia are defined as all able-bodied male citizens between 17 and 45.
Can you guess what waived the militiamen's right to life, liberty, etc.?
Can you perceive the legal authority to compel the militia to train, fight and die that is NOT in violation of job #1?
Remember, American governments were instituted to secure the right to life, not to deny it.
Answer: citizenship.
In America, citizenship is a voluntary act that waives job #1. Do not believe me - go read Article IV of Confederation and pay attention to those "free inhabitants" who are not "free citizens".
Also note that in the USCON, people have rights and powers, while citizens have privileges and immunities.
What 99.9% of Americans are ignorant of is the legal status of American nationals / non-citizens (aka "sovereign people").
As sovereigns, who do not exercise political liberty, they do not vote, nor hold office, being that they're the sovereigns served by government.
So now you have to ask yourself *(and your congress man), how did "all" Americans become "U.S. citizens" at birth? Because citizens are obligated to train, fight and die on command. (That's why conscription was 100% constitutional - and not "involuntary" servitude). Did Congress suddenly get the power to enslave all Americans?
(Carefully read the 13th and 14th amendments and pay attention to which "United States" is being referenced.)
Nationality is a characteristic of birth and parentage. Citizenship is a political liberty. American nationals have the privilege to declare themselves citizens without "naturalization". But you will find no law that imposes citizenship at birth, in the 50 States united. If it did, the law would be unconstitutional since involuntary servitude is banned in the States united (see 13th amendment).

According to the 13th amendment,
involuntary servitude was abolished in the United States of America... except after conviction. But civic duties are compulsory - with penalties for failure to perform.
The Supreme Court has held, in Butler v. Perry, 240 U.S. 328 (1916), that the Thirteenth Amendment does not prohibit
"enforcement of those duties which individuals owe to the state, such as services in the army, militia, on the jury, etc."
In Selective Draft Law Cases, 245 U.S. 366 (1918), the Supreme Court ruled that the military draft was not
"involuntary servitude".
If compulsory military service is NOT INVOLUNTARY, then it must be
voluntary servitude.

Coincidentally, in all the 50 titles of USCODE, codified from the volumes of law enacted by Congress, you will find NO law that violates the natural and personal liberty of the American national / free inhabitant domiciled upon his private property within the boundaries of the United States of America.
However, you will find innumerable references to duties and obligations of the "U.S. citizens / residents" who reside at residences, enrolled into Social Security, and are obligated to get permission (license) to do that which their forefathers did, without needing permission of government.
"Free" Americans now need to get permission (license) to travel, wed, build a house, enter occupations, operate a business, transmit radio, fly a plane, pilot a boat, buy and sell medicine and treatment, sell at retail, hunt, fish, and own a dog.
