Claire McCaskill has always been against earmarks. She hasn't pushed one earmark through the senate since she was elected two years ago. Kit Bond (R-MO) is an earmark junkie, but he is retiring and being replaced by Roy Blunt (R-MO). He also tugs at the earmark, and I don't see him changing his ways.
Things are bass-ackwards in Missouri as far as the earmark issue goes.
If ever you think our government is capable of reforming itself, take a good look at this perfect example of how our elected leaders respond to election results that reflect a groundswell of anger from the American people at Washington's corruption. Business as usual, and they know there is not a thing we can do about it. Other than elect someone else next time around, who will do the exact same thing.
I heard Jim Inhofe (OK) this weekend on the Jerry Doyle Show on KSEV. I was very disappointed to hear him try to justify earmarks, calling them appropriations.
This is the thing I keep spouting about holding our representatives accountable for there actions making them know that this country is for the people by the people.
If one of these members are in your state please email and or call them and voice your opinion. Even if they are not you may want to let them know that as US representatives what they do affects the nation as a whole.
They work for us, simple employees. Tell them what to do.

Not all earmarks are the same. Some people think a good earmark would be like the one in a defense bill, to build Up-Armored HUMVEE's, to make sure or troops in Afghanistan have the equipment they need. They see pork as an earmark for millions of dollars to study why pigs stink in the same defense bill, or an earmark to build a community center for ACORN in the farm bill. So there is some disagreement as to what is, and is not a worthy earmark, and what is pork, a bribe, and a favor returned for campaign contributions.
