Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller says that the federal minimum wage is unconstitutional. It does seem to me like it could easily be handled by individual states.

Republican code for they want to throw it into the toilet and force people desperate for work to be paid pennies while the corporations laugh all the way to the bank. Minimum wage should be raised to at least 10$ an hour.

Yawn.

Wages in this country grew at a higher percentage BEFORE there was a minimum wage.

The only thing a min wage law does is eliminate jobs. Particulary for black male teenagers.

It should be eliminated altogether. Maybe then the unemployment rate would start to come down a bit.

Why? Minimum wage jobs are low level jobs that require no experience, no skill, no education, and no responsibility. Why should these jobs be increased in pay? Why not the person working them improve and move up in positions that pay more?

Also, what about those jobs that do require more and pay a bit higher? So those people are to take a pay cut for all of their work and effort to move up and improve themselves because some people are too lazy and think a minimum wage position is a career choice? This is insane!

Congress has the right to regulate interstate commerce, so there is no basis for unconstitutionality. Also, a lot of states have their own minimum wage laws so technically the states do have control of the minimum wage, so long as it is above the federal minimum.

However, it is important to note that most minimum wage jobs are unskilled, and by far are a minority in terms of income.

Why not raise it to $20 an hour. Maybe $50, then we can all be rich. Raising the rate eliminates jobs, especially entry level. If a job pays $2.50 an hour no one would take it. It'd be more beneficial to go on welfare. Raising the minimum wage causes more unemployment and inflation.

Since I was 17 I have never had a job that payed minimim wage. Just goes to show the market dictates wages, not the government.

The minimum wage should be raised. The Republicans don't like it, so naturally, they claim its unconstitutional.

I'm not sure what that has to do with whether or not it's constitutional, unless you're saying that minimum wage workers don't deserve equal treatment under the Constitution.

The feds have no authority to regulate intra state commerce. A federal min. wage law is only constitutional if it applies solely to businesses engaged in inter state commerce.

Does it seem like anytime the constitutionality of a law is questioned, it just gets thrown into commerce clause? Or is it just me?
