I just thought I'd point out that this was a bi-partisan effort. And you see how several of the RWs jumped right in to disagree. This is a traditional recess, and tradition is highly regarded in DC.
Because, you know, these are traditional times in our economy.
FIRE CONGRESS! How dare they leave without settling the tax issue and passing a balanced budget. Complete dereliction of duty on their part. FIRE the HOUSE of Reps.! Clean out the Senate.

Yeah, the elitists hold their lazy traditions in high regard in DC, but America has to get rid of it's traditions because it offends the illegal immigrants.
The House didn't vote on the tax cuts because DEMOCRATS in the House, at least 47 of them, broke with obama and pelosi.
They came out saying they wanted cuts for everyone, but did not say they would vote against a cut for the bottom 98%. The real issue was in the Senate.
It isn't about Rep or Dem, it's about we the people. Whoever is in needs voted out. A bunch of rookies in there couldn't possibly do worse and may take their positions seriously.
They didn't. They had the votes to pass the bill, but they did not have the votes in order to get to the point where they can actually hold an up or down vote.
In order for a final up or down vote to occur in the Senate it first needs to get past a Cloture motion (which basically means to end debate on a piece of legislation and proceed to a final vote). The Cloture motion needs 60 votes to pass, so unless 60 Senators vote for Cloture a final vote can not happen. The GOP in the Senate threatened to filibuster the extension, which means they would all vote against cloture and therefore block a final vote on the extension from happening, which basically destroyed any chance of any type of vote happening before Election Day.
