Actually the ACLU isn't on both sides at all...the individual members are.

They defend his right to do it but will protest it(as individuals) when it happens.

again, would like to hear a specific case.

during the 70's they defended the right of the nazi party to march in illinois. they lost a lot of jewish support for that decision but it was constitutionally correct.

What's so difficult to understand? We have a right to burn books, and we also have a right to protest those who do.

Maybe this is too complicated for ACLU critics to comprehend.

No it doesn't. It picks and chooses who to represent (as does any legal team), but it does not pick and choose rights. Only the Constitution and the courts can determine rights.

The ACLU is not protesting the pastor's right to free speech - just as they support the right of the pastor to exercise his free speech rights, they support the right of the protesters to protest the pastor's actions.

Sadly, too many people can't understand the difference between supporting the right to an action and supporting the action itself.

Let's see:

*The ACLU supports the free speech rights of the pastor in Florida

*The ACLU supports the free speech rights of those protesting the pastor in Florida

Perfectly consistent.

Ah, because having the right to protest doesn't mean that someone else doesn't have an equal right to counter your protest?

You'd think this was brain surgery.
