Here in Seattle, the ballots recently included a lot of taxes. An attempt to keep a sugar tax that was implemented without voter approval, an attempt at creating a state income tax, etc.

Every last one of them got shot down.

Why? Because Washington voters, liberal as they are, finally started to realize that it was time to start showing the politicians in Olympia tough love. These politicians, every cycle, would demand more taxes from us in various forms, claiming that if we didn't pay it they were going to have to fire policemen, teachers, cut medical assistance for the elderly, etc. Yet somehow they always found ways to come up with like 20 million dollars for digital speed limit signs. We would pass a ballot initiative telling the government they weren't allowed to raise taxes without our approval, and the governor and polis would find a way to get around it by declaring it an "emergency". This was the first ballot where their backs were really to the wall.

The voters up here finally wised up and realized that no matter how much money we gave them, they would just spend more. If we gave them 100 million dollars to fund something or keep a service alive, they'd find a way to spend 250 million in other areas. The polis knew because they were Democrats, they would probably be re-elected no matter what they did.

Eventually a message has to be sent. Eventually the voters have to say no more and forbid out of control runaway spending. It happened here in Washington this November. It started to happen in DC, but there's still a ways to go. The polis need to be purged, both on the right and left side of the aisle, if they are responsible for tons of pork or earmarks or deficit spending.

If we give Congress a tax increase by letting the W cuts expire, they'll just find a way to spend the extra money. They won't put it towards the deficit. We need to force them. We need to make them start shrinking government and to force them to start living within a budget. The W tax cuts aren't the biggest part of the structural deficit. The biggest part is W spent more money than any Republican I've ever seen, and Obama took office and just accelerated the procedure. It's got to stop.

Some people are so brainwashed that they actually believe the government creates money (and I don't mean when they crank up the printing presses). They don't create anything. Both their power and money is derived from the people. Have you ever noticed, no matter how much you give them, it is NEVER enough?
Amen.

Washington had record revenues the last decade, yet it still overran the budget by leaps and bounds. Kind of funny to listen to Democrats talk about deficit problems as if they had nothing to do with a massive stimulous and healthcare plan that was passed.

And here I thought the deficit was a result of spending more than what you bring in.
So if you can't pay your bills you go spend more and then complain your boss doesn't pay you enough?
or
You tighten up on your spending even if it hurts and get your lifestyle under control?

Here is the transcript for today's meet the press: Aug. 1: Mullen, Bloomberg, Greenspan, Rendell - Meet the Press - Transcripts - msnbc.com

Plus I have an article on it here:
Alan Greenspan: Extending Bush Tax Cuts Without Paying For Them Could Be 'Disastrous'
Alan GREENSPAN is one of the MAIN REASONS WE ARE IN THIS MESS! He is a HORRIBLE MAN and RUINED this country WITH HIS FED POLICIES that were ONLY FOR THE RICH AND POWERFUL!

He needs TO BE IN JAIL!

Greenspan led people to the internet tech bubble. He then led them to the housing bubble. He made Wall Street and Banks beyond wealthy.

GREENSPAN IS A CROOK!

so the bottom bracket tax rates should go from 10% to 15%? Because that is what the Bush tax cuts lowered them to.

We need to cut spending, which means killing 0bamaCare and eliminating a lot of federal special interest programs, and welfare programs which end up overlapping with each other, and causing a lot of waste, fraud and abuse.

BTW, how does taking more money from US citizens and feeding it to an ever growing government make our country more prosperous and create jobs?

Unfortunately it's a proven fact that lower taxes on citizens results in higher tax receipts by the government as more money is in the economy, meaning more jobs, more people working, and higher earnings by those people.

Wrong, the tax cuts did not increase the debt. Government revenue increased after the Bush tax cuts, just as it did with the Reagan and Kennedy tax cuts.

Someday, leftists may actually accept that fact. Don't expect it anytime soon, though.
