When I was 21 I had chest pains & went to the ER. I told them I had this overwhelming feeling that I was going to die.
I was told I was having 'lung spasms' given meds & sent home.
After two more days of excruciating pain I went to a different hospital and was found to have a pulmonary embolism that had just broken off and almost went to the brain.
I was in the hospital for 3 wks.

I again had the same 'feeling' in 2005 in a different circumstance and went to the Dr. had tests (negative) and told I was going through menopause & my symptoms were "normal".
I kept going until I annoyed my Dr. so much he did more extensive tests.
I had a hysterectomy and found out I had uterine cancer and a rare 'malignant brenner's tumor' on my ovary that had not spread yet.
Dr. was amazed afterward that I 'KNEW' something was wrong before the tests showed it.

The point I am trying to make is that we have to listen to our own bodies and some can "tell' something is wrong and we have to be aggressive in treatment sometimes even if we annoy a Dr. or two or three.
These things will happen with or without socialized healthcare.
WE are in charge of our healthcare.

Sindey, you are so right about listening to your body.

But for everyone one person who thinks something is wrong and is correct about it, there are 99 other people who are attention-seeking drama queens. Sorting through everyone can be tough.

A glimpse into the world of Socialist Medicine. Just wait, soon you'll be able to experience incidents like this every day under Obamacare--except that you'll be paying an additional trillion or more in taxes for the privilege. After all, with all those new illegal aliens about to get blanket amnesty AND guaranteed free medical care, I'm sure things will get better, right? So say the Liberals, so shall it be done.

Thats universal health care for you, after all when there is not enough medical care to go around, they do have to cut back on some people. this is what is in store for americans when UHC in finally in place.

get too old and they will cut care off for you, too expensive to treat, no care for you either.

The doctor told me he thought I had a mini stroke or was in the middle of having one and wanted to keep me overnight. I said no, but agreed to follow up with my doctor and did. He diagnosed me as having a facial palsy, this makes sense since I hadn't felt well the week leading up to this and this can be caused by a virus. The point is, why did they make me wait so long with symptoms of a possible stroke?
I guess another good question would be why would you go home if the doctor thought you were having a stroke and wanted to keep you over night?

Throwing out "Obamacare" with nary an idea of what he even passed. Too bad you don't care to know either.

This is the situation. A quote from the OP's link:
Quote:
Dr Andrew Short, the hospital’s clinical director, said Amy’s condition was “unique” and nothing could have saved her.
He said: “This tragic outcome could not have been foreseen.
“There is no medical journal or record of anyone with glandular fever and streptococcal toxic shock. Miss Carter’s condition was unique.”
I don't think this is a socialized healthcare issue.

Diagnosis
The early symptoms of TSS may resemble those of severe allergic drug reactions or other illnesses. Lacking any other explanation, a doctor will suspect TSS in certain patients, such as women who use vaginal methods of birth control (for example, a diaphragm) or anyone who has recently had an operation. A blood test can confirm the diagnosis.

From your link it does say a blood test can confirm the diagnosis, in conjunction with the other symptoms with unexplained origin. Without any allergic reaction symptoms, vomiting, a high fever (above 102), diarrhea, and muscle aches a blood test is inconclusive by itself. Even the later symptoms weren't visible; that was peeling of the skin on the torso, face, hands, and feet along with low blood pressure. Till she hit the last symptoms of heart and multiple organ failure.

Considering she had no other symptoms but feeling like death, is that really a good diagnosis?
