That's what I thought, I can remember when it was on the news. Still, it doesn't surprise me considering the clientele that they get down there.

And Yes, this is the reason people will not go to Monroeville. Incidents like this send shock waves out and though people dont say it they will vote with their feet. I stopped going to Walmart on Rt. 30 for the same reason. Just too much drama. There is no normalizing this behavior, and those that do are just as distorted as those that perpetuate it.
People!!! Perspective... Of course it's never ok to fight, but in the grand scheme of crimes committed, a 15 second fight at the mall is not at all serious... Really really ghetto, but not that serious.

You'd think 2 cops got killed or something???

There are fights at every mall, but the point is that the mother of the one of the children involved in the fight has the decency to blame the mall and their security when it's totally the parent's responsibilities to keep their children behaved. Kids fighting is one thing, but when the parents get involved and support having their kids fighting one another, then it's a totally different story. Hell, when my friends and I were up there the one time, a group of black girls were messing with one of my friends, calling her a **** and a ***** because she was wearing short shorts. I'm no racist but that was uncalled for, it wasn't like we were doing anything to those people.

BUT...it wasn't like two teenagers duked it out in the food court. It was a complete brawl that involved a LARGE crowd of people. Small children were actually in the midst of things. This could have been hazardous to ANY innocent mall shopper passing through. Yes, it could have been worse, but the whole point is that the mall is steadily declining and these types of things are becoming the norm at Monroeville Mall in particular. And this could easily just be the start of things at this particular mall. What's next, people bringing in actual weapons and using them on one another inside the mall, like it's the "street" or something? In a public shopping mall, I would like to think it should be a decently safe place for me. I'm going to go on a limb and say you would NOT see anything like this at Ross Park.

You're right!
But it is located in a different area,
and has a different "clientele" shopping there.

Thats' crap...

You'd never see anything like that at any mall.... until... that one crazy day when something crazy happens... Like there aren't North Side Ghetto Folk and river rat yinzers at Ross Park... it absolutely could happen anywhere.

You're equating "North Side ghetto folks" with "river rat yinzers" ?
I don't think so.

I sincerely hate the attitude "it can happen to anyone, anywhere". It just does not happen anywhere to anyone. There are counties in Pennsylvania that you never heard of where there are no police and absolutely no crime.

Absolutely there are counties where nothing ever happens... just not in Pittsburgh or Philly spheres of influence.

But we're not talking about ....4 people died, it can happen anywhere... we're talking about, 1 ghetto mom and 4 teenagers getting in an after school fist fight.

True... because yinzers never fight, never act stupidly, and always maintain the highest of all ethical codes.

Come on now buddy... anyone here could pull up millions of gazette links detailing any "Socially defined group (http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/4148743/detail.html - broken link)" acting crazy. I'm sure anyone would prefer a mall fist fight over a hammer attack (http://www.thepittsburghchannel.com/news/22131357/detail.html - broken link) any day.

I'll be the first person to call out ghetto ridiculousness... and Mall fighting is ghetto ridiculousness!... but a Mall fist fight does not signify the end of Western Civilization as we know it...

it was a minor isolated incident...
