Hey all,

There is a place available at the corner of Friendship and S. Negley aves. Is this a safe area? I know it is getting close to East Liberty, but is advertised as two blocks from Shadyside. It looks like a great place, but I want to feel safe in my own hood.
Thanks.

It sounds safe to me, but I am not the best judge for anyone else. I feel safe in Harlem and Detroit!

But in all seriousness, I do think you'd do okay at that corner. Neighbourhoods here bump up against each other and sometimes one street can be gorgeous and another run-down.

Personally, however, I would not commit until I saw the place and the street myself and not just online.

Very good advice! I often give similar advice on the Denver forum. City-data and the interent in general are helpful and fun, but "seeing is believing". I have felt safe in many sketch parts of Denver, too.

Negley Avenue is the border between Friendship and East Liberty; on the east side of Negley is East Liberty; on the west is Friendship. As far as "the 'hood" goes, East Liberty really isn't that bad. It's not great, but it's nothing like Homewood or the Hill.

There's a nationally renowned beer bar about a block from that corner that I visit as often as I can. As far back as the mid to late 90s I was never uncomfortable in that area even at night and even though it was a bit rough on the edges, but I have a pretty high tolerance for urban conditions. Since then there has been a lot of development and gentrification in that area so it has cleaned up quite a bit. I'm sure there's still some urban issues in that area but it wouldn't stop me from moving there. Like others have said, go see for yourself, particularly at night.
