Ok, so I'll be in Pittsburgh later this week to look for an apartment. I'm from out of town..about 7.5 hrs away, so what is the best way to go about this? I've looked on craigslist.com, but that's about it. Also, can anyone give more input on Edgewood, Point Breeze, Friendship, and Lawrenceville? Thanks!

Well I'm looking for something close to U Pitt. Probably 1-2 bedrooms and under $850/mo. I also want to have a dog and be decently close to the grocery store, etc. I want to live in a safe neighborhood. That's the most important stuff...

Well since you are renting I would get fish instead of a dog. It will make the whole renting life easier for years to come. It can be hard to find a place here that accepts pets.

Edgewood, Point Breeze - kinda out there for not having a car. Its at least 20 minutes to Oakland from those places on bus.
Friendship -
Lawrenceville - Not really non-car friendly and has questionable areas (crime)

I would suggest squirrel hill, north oakland (NOT SOUTH NOT SOUTH), shadyside

I would pick the 1 BRM for your price range to end up with a nicer apt in a better area.

Places to look:
Find Apartments For Rent, Search Apartment Rentals and Listings, Property Management - RentalGuideApartments.com
Pittsburgh Post Gazette classifieds online
City Paper classifieds online

To check the walking factor:
walkscore.com - lists stores etc within walking distance
