Pittsburghers and other easterners/midwesterners have been saying that for decades now. Never underestimate human beings' ability to ADAPT!

I think some people probably felt forced to leave due to (very real) economic circumstances and now feel resentful that the city didn't completely crash and burn. But once you have made a life somewhere else for 20 years it isn't so easy to just move back.
Well, that didn't take long! Why is it that people who think Pittsburgh is so perfect, and in some cases have moved there from somewhere else (cough, cough), can't understand why someone ELSE who moved elsewhere (NOT "away") likes it where they are? They have to come up with all this psychobabble instead!

(Puts hands over face waiting for brick-bats!)

Many have never been anywhere else so to them it's the only place to live and everyone should want to live there.

Doesn't really matter whether we are talking about someone hours away, fifteen minutes away, or three threads away... some people are just committed to negativity. I'm learning not to let it bother me. I'm glad they are gone from the city. And I'm glad they don't want to come back. And I'm glad they are spewing their negativity to their friends and others who would lend credibility to what they say.

Yes, I spend at least an hour a day, every day, lamenting that I ever left Pittsburgh and being so jealous of everyone still living there!

Good grief what is wrong with you guys? Did it ever occur to either one of you, and charisb as well, that leaving Pittsburgh to get married and start a new life; or to start a new job in one's profession might be considered a positive thing?

Why would living somewhere else be a "big mistake", doo dah?

Why would someone who moved away be "resentful" charisb?

One time when my brother was out here, I believe for one of my kids' high school graduations (yes, we do have schools out here in the wild west; hard to believe, eh, doo dah, charisb, and gortonator?) he said, "You know, "Katie", you and "Joe" have really made a good life for yourselves out here! What a surprise! Someone can have the "good life". . .outside of Pittsburgh!

To you gorton:

I think, if you read the OP's post, you will find it says ....

"I have a lot of family and friends who lived in the Pittsburgh area say 80's early 90's and moved away... NO matter how much praise or growth the city has they STILL will put down the city and amenities."

Nothing about being resentful about people moving away in there, my dear. What on earth are you ranting about? I've moved away from as many towns as you, and will do again. That rocky mountain air seems to be having an effect on your reasoning.

When you visiting next? In person, I mean ... you should see all the changes. We had friends here from Oil City who now live out West, and hadn't visited Pgh in 20 years. They were quite amazed

My God, didn't you even read the posts I quoted?

doo-dah thinks people who moved away don't want to admit they made a mistake! How provincial is that? charisb thinks they're resentful. What a bunch of armchair psychologists!

I was in Pittsburgh a few years ago for a wedding. I've never gone 20 years w/o visiting, much as you and many on this board ASS*ME. I still have family there.

Knock off the personal insults too, will ya?

C'mon Kat, we all know you love yourself a bit of Burgh bashing on here. But that's cool. Like I said, come visit ... I've even seen rapid change in my short time here. In fact, even yesterday I saw roads in East Liberty without potholes. That's a change in a week
