It really is a point of positivity for those in the northern suburbs who have to come into the city, or through the city to points east, south or west.

Really helpful for those in the city that work out in Wexford and Cranberry as well.

I'm not sure what other solutions were out there

Your comment kind of reminds me of that guy who owned the old car repair shop on Route 28. When they were preparing to tear down the final buildings along that stretch of road, Police had to come in and evict him because he refused to move out. In a way, it was sad to see him lose his business, but what can you do? That project is most necessary out of all the major construction projects in the Pittsburgh region.

“It's kind of mindless when you do it every day. I try to leave home early so I miss a lot of the mess,” Wolff said. “If they could widen the road, that would be great. And if they could do something with the merge lane (outbound), where people are coming from Oakland, that would help.”

When Wolff leaves by 6:05 a.m., she can get to work in 35 minutes. If she leaves 10 minutes later, it can cost her an extra 20 minutes in traffic. When she leaves work at 4 or 4:30 p.m., it takes her about 50 minutes. Leaving at 5 p.m. means a commute of more than a hour.

“It's kind of crazy. The parkway is horrible during rush hour,” she said.

^ You could also NOT live in Murrysville. Problem solved.
This isn't only an issue for people living in westmoreland county. I live in Pennhills and have to leave ONE HOUR early to get to work in SOUTHSIDE due to traffic on the parkway. This is because with 376 East you honestly never know what you are going to run into. It may be closed, there may be traffic, one slow tunnel driver may slow everyone down. I get on at Churchill and get off at Glenwood. It's not an issue of "you could also NOT live in Murrysville" it's that our population size is increasing and our roadways really weren't created for the number of cars that drive on them...especially 376 east around the tunnel area...

I have heard that an outside company came up with a proposal to build a toll road that individuals could choose to take instead of the parkway. The toll road was going to be built as a raised road, above the parkway. However for whatever reason Penndot turned down the outside company and their proposal.

From what I understand, the Mon Fayette expressway was scrapped also.

Yeah, who needs highways? We should all just sit in gridlock on curvy, two-lane back roads. I'm sure idling away all that gas is great for the environment.

I can understand opposition to a new highway, but the easiest way to tell who the militant anti-highway people are is when they shout down the mere suggestion of improving an existing highway that's functionally the same as it was when it was built 60 years ago. That's ridiculous, as far as I'm concerned.

Someone posted to my Facebook feed recently a photo of a billboard that said "You aren't stuck in traffic, you are traffic."

Where did you see that billboard? Was it in Pittsburgh?

Poking around on the web tells me that the Billboard was an ad for TomTom GPS and was seen in London.
