Is the Parkway East into downtown closed or detoured on Weekends? What is the quickest way downtown driving in from Greensburg?

That same question was asked a week ago. Find the thread and you'll see various suggestions.

I guess you have to watch the news or go to a PennDOT site to find out about parkway closings, lanes available, detours, etc.

I like to keep moving so I might take the turnpike to Allegheny Valley exit (the next exit 10 miles after Monroeville) and take Rt. 28 South toward Pittsburgh. You'll actually be on old Rt. 28/Freeport Road. Go about 4 lights and turn right at the Get Go/Target/Exxon intersection and signs will steer you to the newer Rt. 28 (a few blocks) which is a breeze into town, another 12 miles. That will take you to the North Side and you just cross a bridge to get to downtown.

Another suggestion I remember was to take Rt. 30 all the way to Wilkinsburg where it turns into Penn Avenue. Follow that to a left on 5th Avenue and take it to town. There's a ton of stop lights the entire way so I don't know that that would be the fastest route.

We are coming in for the Pitt game and avoiding the Parkway East.

We will come through White Oak and past Kennywood. We will take any variety of routes to Heinz Field once we get to Homestead.
