Although it was certainly a large Pittsburgh neighborhood, my memories of the East Street valley weren't ones of a lively neighborhood. I remember it being pretty run down in appearance and looking like a neighborhood on the decline. But yes, the Northside was hit big time with the rt65, 279 and that atrocity that is the Allegheny Center complex.

Mala Jaska was along the 28 corridor that was completely erased for the road expansion. The last remnants of it were the houses that sat closer to the Heinz plant.

And although it strays from the thread topic, the Seldom Seen neighborhood below Beechview is another lost neighborhood.

Prop 13 in California applies to all assessable property on the tax roll... commercial, residential, industrial... all treated the same.

Individual taxing authorities pile on on top of Prop 13 statewide 1%... my rate is 1.6%

A friend moved back to PA and bought a farm... he loves it... the only thing he misses is the Prop 13 he left in California.
