Iconic Pittsburgh sign to get "facelift" - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

This is long overdue, and will only add to the views of Mt. Warshington and the incline from the city. I think a can of Rust-Oleum would go a long way...

Thank god, this thing has been embarassing for a few years now. I really hope that they use LEDs for the upgrade.

Anything else will be a waste of time and money and will look dated before it's even finished, IMO.

YAY!! I was just commenting on how horrible that looks yesterday, while looking at my pictures taken Downtown. Glad that it's finally getting a much overdo upgrade.

Aw, I loved that hunk of crap. One of the last few remnants of the Pittsburgh's "check out this cool new technology!" attempts of yesteryear.

I am glad they are taking care of that eyesore and not getting rid of it.

Everytime I leave Manchester and drive back over into the city I look up at that thing and feel like I'm walking the Korean DMZ and that thing is blaring propaganda at me...

Well since it's Bayer you could liken it to a certain German propaganda machine.

The nature of the article almost makes it out that the owner seems very lackadasical about updating the sign. Not only does Bayer have their name to the sign, but so does the owner of the sign, Lamar Advertising. Come on already. update it and quit dragging your feet!

Seems like Lamar is holding it hostage until it gets what it wants out of city council.

amendments to the city's sign ordinance passed by City Council in December removed language that would have allowed the use of modern LED lighting technology in such an upgrade.
Yea, that sounds about right coming from city council
