Social media can complement historians' efforts to keep alive hometown memories

This is a wonderful article from the Post-Gazette. It details the efforts made by local historical societies in the Pittsburgh area to keep memories and history alive online.

If you haven't checked out the McKees Rocks Historical Society or Pittsburgh House Histories on Facebook, you are missing out! There are lots of people who chime in with interesting historical info or just chat about preservation or other community issues.

Carol Peterson of Pittsburgh House Histories just completed the House History of my row-house in Stowe Township. I haven't had a chance to read it yet, but I know now that the building was a circa 1907 tenement and that the first person who lived in my house was named Zachariah Lammert, and he was a "mill worker." Great stuff!
