I have to publicly apologize to this forum.. I'm guilty of many negative posts of East Liberty on here..

I've been doing work on North Beatty right behind Peabody High School. Wow is that neighborhood nice!

God bless you young people for fixing this city up.. I had tears in my eyes driving down North Beatty the other day..

There is a flow of new blood coming into this city that is making it come alive again..

My wife has been mentioning how she wants to move back into the city. I see her point now.. We are from Bloomfield and Lawrenceville and we both had wonderful childhoods growing up here in the fifty's and sixtys....

Now if only we could get the rest of you old people to stop spreading negativity about places you haven't stepped foot in for the past 50 years and only hear about on the news...Imagine the progress then!

I agree, I have family that lives in Highland Park right by east liberty. Whenever I visited them up through the late 90's it was an absolute war zone. Things have just been turning around with the shops opening in Penn Circle, thing is once you leave the Penn Circle are it still isn't all that great so there is still work to be done. I will have to say that it is 1,000,000 times nicer than it was in 99 though

East Lib has really changed since I was driving a cab in the mid 90's and the garage was on Penn Circle South where Starbucks is today.

It really isn't the same place.

Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves. The OP wasn't being negative, so why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

East Liberty has been making a lot of great strides recently (hell, I was just there on a Saturday night till 2:30 AM last weekend). But let's not kid ourselves and pretend that there's not room for tons of improvement as statistically it's still one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city:

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD... Yes, I hear this area is still 100x better than the 90's or earlier. However, East Lib area is known for drug trade, especially Heroin.

I am a firm believer that if you are not looking for trouble it usually doesn not look for you... If you take some wrong turns in that area, the cute, hipster, shops turn into a true open drug market with the characters to match
