I will be moving to Pittsburgh in a month and while the Steelers are my favorite team in the AFC, I am a New York Giants fan first and foremost. I am living close to Walnut Street in Shadyside and am wondering if there are any sports bars within walking distance that would show the Giants? I came across a bar called Buffalo Blues on S. Highland Avenue. Is that considered to be in a safe area? I won't be bringing a car with me, so I would like any sports bar to be within walking distance (within 2 miles) and in a safe area.
Finally, does any one know how much the average utility gas bill is per month in Shadyside? Any information you could give would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think Buffalo Blues closed, actually. Looked like it the last time I went past, anyway.

There are a lot of bars within walking distance of Shadyside, so I'm sure you can find something. But most will be full of Steelers fans.

As far as safety, I have never felt uncomfortable walking around in Shadyside. It has a higher crime rate than you might think, but I believe that's mostly stuff like car theft.

Buffalo Blues is just closed for renovations and is supposed to reopen at the beginning of August.

Buffalo Blues and Bites and Brews (on Ellsworth) are the two most closely associated with being straight up sports bars in Shadyside. However, there are usually tv's showing games at both the Wm. Penn Tavern and Shadyside Saloon. Additionally, you can hop on th 500 and ride to close by Oakland, where you will find a bevy of college bars like Piper's Pub and Hemingway's where there is always a game of some sort on.

As for find a Giant's fan bar, well, good luck with that one.

According to the Giants fan site Sports Bars That Televise Giants Games (broken link)

the closest sports bar that shows Giants games is in State College.

I guess I am taking my life into my own hands I know that Pittsburgh takes its sports teams seriously, and that is a good thing. I was just hoping that there might be a TV in a sports bar near Shadyside that shows the Giants. It doesn't have to be a Giants bar per say. In Virginia (where I am now), every one LOVES the Washington Redskins and they showed the Giants at the bars here. I was ridiculed and called names on a weekly basis. I know that Pittsburghers cannot be worse than Washington fans...especially since I root for the Steelers unless they are playing the Giants, which will occur next year!
