Here is a high mountain lake (Baldy Lake) next to a peak in the Cabinet range in Montana. It's all fractured and broken up belt rock and talus up here with an exposed igneous intrusion called a dyke next to the peak and next to the lake. The town below this peak has a lot of folks that cling to a town myth that Mount Baldy is a volcano and that baldy lake is the crater ! That notion is of coarse preposterous but there is an ancient volcano and hot springs nearby so the myth persists. The picture was taken from about halfway up the trail from the lake to the top of Mount Baldy.
