I have no qualifications to be a judge and I do like all your photos, especially Lavender Blue and The Caboose, but based on judging that I've witnessed in my past, I will share two things they might have said about the caboose and horse pics.

On The Caboose, they might have detracted points for the fact that your subject was centered in the frame vs. using the rule of thirds or shooting at a different angle to give it more interest.

On the photo of the horses, besides the purple fringe, they might have felt the sand and the water were a little overexposed. Everyone knows, though, that it's hard to shoot a dark subject on such a light background.

Having said that, I absolutely LOVE the shot with the book and glasses and really like your idea of taking "in the moment" shots.
