Looks like you must have had a ticket to get that close.

Why didn't you slap on the 1200 and then you could show us pics of the Apollo 11 landing site.

They're very cool -- especially the first one.

Default Moon Photography?

I've always been in love with night photography, but could never quite master it! I got a tripod some years ago, and just dug it out of the closet last weekend... if you weren't aware, the moon was at its closest point to the earth - at the same time as a full moon. That hadn't happened in about 15 years, and won't happen again until like 2018, so I really wanted some photos. I have a SLR Minolta Maxxum, but it doesn't work very well these days - so I had to use my cheap digital point & shoot, and put it on the night setting. I'm saving up for a digital SLR, but for now this will have to do! Here are my attempts, and I could use any advice on taking good night photos (with either a point & shoot or SLR). FYI: The pictures below are from two different nights, since I didn't find my tripod until the second day.

First I tried a few shots without the tripod...

Strange effect!

And then with the tripod (and fewer clouds)

I think this is my favorite... but a little dark.

this is a night shot shot with my point and shoot camera (had it sitting on something, not tripod)
I do know that you can't hold the camera to do a night shot, it has to be sitting still that's the only help I can give
