There is a story behind that shot and I was fortunate to be there, well, I work there.
This female Bald Eagle sadly ate poisoned horse meat. She was ill and unable to fly. She was found and reported to the Odawa Tribe who helped the DNR capture her, heal her, and rehab her via Wings of Wonder.
She was released at the Tribal pow wow grounds at the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.
Something really cool happened just before she was released, two other bald eagles came and circled at the start of the ceremony. When she was released, she flew east to freedom.
This eagle, a female, is a big one, weighing 15 lbs and a wingspan of 6 ft.
