Huh! I work downtown and didn't realize there was a Gold's Gym there! I'll have to check it out.

There's getting to be a fair number of workout opportunities downtown now - the old Suns gym, the YMCA on Central, the Crossfit gym on 7th and Roosevelt...

It's on Central and I think there's also a new tougher gym some where in the Warehouse District.

I'm a native of Phoenix and I was born in October of 1956, and I can tell you that just in last 20-25 years or so, downtown Phoenix has seen more changes than it did throughout its history.

Here's some pictures from the past. I'll put a brief description above each one.

Central Avenue and Filmore in the 1920s, the hole in the ground on the right was to become the downtown post office.

The Luhrs Tower while it was under construction in the 1920s, on 1st Avenue and Jefferson.

Central Avenue and McDowell Road in 1948, and I remember the Mobil gas station (Remember the old Mobil insignia?) seen on the left, it was at that intersection up until the mid 1980s.

Downtown Phoenix around the mid 1930s, showing the San Carlos Hotel at Central and Monroe.

Central Avenue around Van Buren looking south around the early 1940s, looks like it was taken around the holiday season.

A color picture of downtown, showing the San Carlos Hotel on Central Ave and Monroe. This was taken from the Adams Hotel.

Central and Indian School in the early 1960s.

Around 1972, a picture of what's now the Chase Tower, back then it was to be the new 40-story Valley Bank tower, and at that time, it was the tallest building in the Rocky Mountain states when it opened in 1973, but that title was taken by the Mountain Bell Tower in Denver, Colorado sometime in the mid to late 1970s.
Wonderful pictures Thank you

Sorry for the blurriness of the shots

A personal favorite that I caught of a lightrail train speeding past Cityscape tower 1
The one thing you notice with the Luhrs Tower, as well as other older buildings, the building's name was etched into the concrete wall, unlike newer buildings, to allow for the constant change of owners that seem to happen more often these days.

I like it too, it also give people a landmark referance. So people will now know it's the Lurhs Tower instead of "that really cool stone building.
I'll be posting more picutres of the downtown area on Sunday. I'm going to spend the entire day there tomorrow and enjoy the sights of urban core.

It's going to be windy tomorrow. You should be able to get that iconic photo of tumbleweeds blowing down the main drag.

It was really windy today. I had a very good time downt there, just got back 10 minutes ago after leaving at 7:45 this morning. I have several hundred pics, of the bustling streets. And yes I mean bustling, there were people everywhere, just like what a true urban core should be.

The Gold's gym is at Central and Washington St (on the east side of Central).
