Ok, I know there are about 100 threads on these cameras, but in my browsing I havent been able to find one that answers this question.

I totally understand radar and how it works, and I understand how the red light cameras trip a sensor to take the photos.

My question is...since most cars in AZ dont have front plates, how do you get identified.

I ask because tonight while driving on the 60 in Mesa I saw the flash go off from one of the mobile units. It wasnt me, as I saw the car in the lane next to me pass me as it went off, and I was only doing 60 in the 55 MPH (due to the construction), but it got me thinking...I only see the one flash while the vehicle in question is still coming up on the camera, but never a second flash once its past the camera unit?

Same applies with red light cameras....

Anyone know what Im missing here?

Thanks.

they all go off in a fun blur catching both your image and your back license plate - you'll see the cameras pointing both ways at you

Fear not, sh . . . they work!

The cameras are perfectly synchronized to catch a front shot as well as a side and rear shot. Just recently my neighbor received a ticket and the six shots that included were incredibly clear and left absolutely no doubt.

Thanks, guess I just never noticed any camera that looked like it was pointing to capture the rear plate. I assume they have a way to distinguish between lanes on the freeway? Maybe multiple cameras?

I heard, they will soon be taking X-Ray shots of your head to be able to identify you from your dental records if needed!!

....of course I am kidding but really, who knows?

There are sensors under each of the lanes. Learned this in stupid traffic school (for my ticket)

Don't you already feel like a safer, better driver?

I got one from the cameras on the 101 in Scottsdale a couple of years ago but, it only had two photos (one of my rear plate and the other of me driving). Mine weren't really that crystal clear....clear enough to read the plate numbers but, my face wasn't clear at all....as a matter of fact, most of it was blocked by my rear view mirror. Since the cameras are on the side of the highway and there are 3-4 lanes, if you're in the fast lane (or the closer you are to it), it will have to take your picture from a lot sharper angle than if you're in the the lane closest to the side of the road (the far right lane)....not that it matters any. The ticket goes to the registered owner of the car, regardless of who's driving it so, if you're the owner (even though your face may be blocked, like mine was) and you try to fight it in court using that as your defense, I'm almost positive you'll lose.

It's a special court room with special procedures and it's very unfair. The person sitting in the prosecutors chair is an employee from the photo radar company (he's there all day, that's all he does) and he sort of has the role of a prosecutor but, he's actually there as a witness for the state. That right there is a complete conflict of interest, since the photo radar company makes money off of each ticket. He speaks first and rattles off a scripted statement except where he plugs in the specifics of your case (your speed, time, etc.), then you state your defense. He then has a chance for rebuttal (which is something a prosecutor might do but, not a witness), the you get a chance to rebut and then that's it....the judge makes his decision and you're not allowed to speak again after he does....so, if he finds you guilty with some lame reason (like he did with me saying, "Yeah but, you were still going pretty fast, 78 MPH is above the speed limit") and pretty much ignores your defense, you can't say anything...ask anything...etc.

In my situation for example not only did he ignore my defense (which was that I had just accelerated and changed lanes to avoid getting hit by another driver who realized he was about to miss the exit he wanted) but, his reasoning in itself was not even sufficient enough to find me guilty (based on his statement). In Arizona the posted speed limit is not a "hard" limit like it is in most states. Here your speed must be "reasonable and prudent"....driving above the posted limit is only "prima facie" evidence that you're guilty of speeding....which means, it's only sufficient evidence unless it's contested (which is what I was doing)....as long as you can prove your speed was not unreasonable or imprudent under the circumstances, you're not guilty of speeding (it was a clear day, very little traffic, you were on a highway, etc).

In addition, the ticket was issued (at that time) by the city of Scottsdale and state highways are not in their jurisdiction. The DPS (state police) issue citations on state highways. Scottsdale has since handed over the responsibility of issuing citations from the cameras to the state (who now takes operates all the new cameras installed) but, at that time they were doing it (and collecting the revenue from it too).

Let me just say it one more time this proves what i talking about ( SEE my other post ) (first) the hearing is in direct violation of your constitutional rights . (second) the hearing is a violation of the FEDERAL FAIR DEBT COLLECTION ACT. Third He is not a court officer what the hell is he sitting on the bench for , yes i would say he has a conflect in the matter . WAKE UP AMERICA ! get REAL ! DOES ANY ONE OUT THERE KNOW WHAT THEIR CONSTITUTIONALLY GAURENTEED RIGHTS ARE ????
