That would be one ugly commute!

I'd strongly advise that you drive it, both ways, at what would be your normal work hours everyday for at least a week, maybe even longer; and then really think about how doing that day in and day out, for years on end, would affect your quality of life... not to mention your sanity.

Good Luck with your decision.

Really, if you want to get a bigger house for lower cost, be sure to check out North Phoneix, etc.
Hilarious...and true!!

Enjoy your utterly long and extremely boring drive! I live in Mesa and commute to Florence (shorter drive than you would have) and the commute is the absolute worst part of my day. I would definitely take the advice of some of the others on here, and rent a place up closer to your work.

I drove down to Casa Grande from North Scottsdale...

boy was it FAR...

Someone had ranked it as:
1)Maricopa
2)CG
3)QC

I would never do this. The drive is a killer.

Is it that you want a "new" house or just a nice, affordable one? If it's the latter, I would look around South Scottsdale...around Granite Reef Rd. Indian School and south. Some of these neighborhoods are really quite nice and the houses are well kept and well built. I think the area of South Scottsdale is going to be the huge winner when the area around McDowell/Scottsdale road starts roiling with development, once the ASU center is finished. Of course, that's just my guess. But I've been thinking of that area as a good investment for a while now.

Now, if you want a huge house on a small lot for $180,000...you are going to have to drive an hour or more.

Think of all the money you'll be flushing down the toilet in gas!
I would rent in Scottsdale before doing that commute.

If you find a place that you really like in one of those areas and it is in your price range, and you really don't mind the drive, then go for it! The drive can be rough, but for some people it can really be worth it.

There is a lot of good advice from the replies in this post (stuff to seriously consider), but this is a personal decision and the only thing that really matters is what is important to you and your family.

Then again, how much gas can you buy for $100,000? Seriously, I would not do the drive either, it was very hard on my husband when we first moved here and he drove from Chandler to N. Peoria.
