I moved to Los Angeles a couple weeks ago, but long term, Arizona is an option for me. I’m only 22.

I love that the Phoenix area isn’t expensive. I look at the prices of the houses there and it’s nice to see that I can get a nice home in a safe area for less than $300,000. That’s not possible around LA. I’m considering going for a career in psychology, and they really don’t make six figures, so living in LA doesn’t seem like a viable option for me.

I’m black, and I really don’t go out to bars and clubs, so I was wondering whether or not I would like the area. I've always wanted to live in a suburban area. I’m generally quiet. Also, would I get into any problems being in an interracial relationship? In LA, I know people don’t care, but would things be different in the Phoenix area?

I really don't think so. Such relationships are very common here, across all sorts of racial/ethnic lines. Lots of nice suburbs here. Commutes can be long, so where you work and where you live ought not to be on opposite sides of the Valley.

Scottsdale is part of Metro Phoenix. No one here cares what color you are or who you date; only how much money you have. Just kidding. Or am I?

I've heard stuff like that so I'm inclined to believe you.

No one will care at all about your race or the race of your partner, even less so than LA. The cost of living here is a fraction of LA's but the flip side is that the job market can be (notice I said "can be" rather than "is") really bad. So yes, buying a home is much more realistic than LA, but securing an adequate income in the first place might be the hard part.

Does it get too hot to do stuff outside? Like jogging, going for a walk, etc.

For many people, yes. At least during the hottest months of Monsoon season (June-September). People get by, by doing activities very early in the morning. Many people keep their cool by spending a lot of time in the pool. Many people do manage to golf, jog, walk etc. year round though.

Same here. I was just curious because I've read on here about someone's negative experience.
