What are the best pool halls? I don't really care about location just where the best players gather and is clean not a dive (although I am not against dive bars if that is the best place to go)

Depends on the day of the week and whether you are looking for afternoon or night time games. Some places that my pool playing husband frequented (and he played 5 afternoons a week, and occasionally at night)

Groggy's in Mesa
Kitty's at approximately 36th Street & Thomas, Phoenix
Charlie's at Thunderbird & 55th Avenue

Other choices that he has gone to, but not regularly

Connelly's in Tempe
MetroSportzBar in Phoenix

(Keep in mind that husband is retired and >65, but a very good pool player. If you're looking for a younger crowd, look at the places in Tempe. There are several, but he didn't 'fit in.')

Thx for the suggestions. I'm in my 30s but I try to avoid Tempe too lol. I will try them out. BTW it looks like we did a metro swap I just moved out of RDU to Phoenix. How are you liking Raleigh so far?

Very much, thank you! Husband plays pool at Buck's in Cary about four afternoon's a week. Nice play, but do you have any other suggestions where he might find better players in the afternoons?

BTW, you'll be pleased at how many places offer free pool at certain times/days in Phoenix. And how many pool players gamble a little ($1-$10/game). Now that husband has to pay for pool and can't find folks who will put a few buck on the table, what was once a free hobby is now an expense line in our budget!

Snookers is the place in Raleigh. Serious players that can and would blow me away have tournament nights there but causal players come in there too. Age of the crowd doesn't skew too young either

Yep, but they don't open until 4PM. That kinda cuts out "afternoon" games.

I'll suggest it to him the next time he wants to play on Sat or Sun, since they open at 3PM on those days. And I appreciate the suggestion.

Wow the mention of Snookers brought back some great memories! That was one of my favorite hang-outs when I lived in RDU.

If you're in the East Valley try out Jester's Billiards. 1515 N Gilbert Rd (SE corner of Gilbert & Baseline). That's where I go.....
