Hi -
Considering a move from Tampa to Phoenix suburbs (like Chandler or Gilbert)

Can anyone tell me:

1) How does the cost of living compare? (home & car insurance/food/utilities etc)
2) What is the difference in age demographics?
3) Crime? Does it feel safer?
4) Are Chandler and Gilbert good areas for younger families? (30 somethings)

No need to mention the heat. I know from experience that dry heat beats humidity any day.
Thank you in advance!!

I just made the move! Our whole family caravan-ed 2200 miles from St. Petersburg, FL. We bought a beautiful older home in Sun City for real cheap. A house like this would have run about 220K there. That is if you could find a ranch style home with a 2 car garage in St. Pete. It's an old city and most of those homes there are old dumpy shacks full of mold. But yet the people pay premium to live there, I guess they love that 90 degree Gulf of Mexico.

Phoenix has a more lively and youthful feel than St. Pete, FL. And there are less rednecks here too, I rarely see people smoking cigarettes. No "Salt Life" stickers on cars here, and none of those Guy Harvey shirts with fish on them.
