I think both would be bad commutes to the airport for an early flight. Goodyear has I-10; Surprise has Grand Ave. and the RR tracks. The best schools in the Valley aren't in either.

It's only 20 minutes to the airport from Goodyear, and 40 minutes from Surprise. I have no experience with taking Grand to downtown though, because I don't imagine it speeds up time as much as reduces maybe 10 miles of driving. My experience with it is too many stoplights and traffic to bother using it.

As for schools, i have no idea. I'll take your word on that.

Surprise is more developed than Goodyear at the moment too. And I have to agree with MN-born-n-Raised that Surprise DOES feel more safer. In order to test the safety feeling when I was house hunting, I was observe the neighborhood and see how it made me feel when I was standing out front- needless to say, Surprise expelled a level of safety and peace, but Goodyear did not. Not the areas we viewed anyway, and they were not slum areas or anything. I just got this vibe that if I wanted to take a walk by myself outside, I would be looking over my shoulder every 5 seconds, whereas in Surprise, I have no problems walking alone outside, ever, at night, without being worried. Thus, the commute may be the most annoying part of living in Surprise, but I would have to say many people find that a small sacrifice for how great this city actually is. Otherwise, both cities are both great places; it just depends what you want out of it.
You are the first i have heard Surprise is more developed than Goodyear. The reason you feel safer because of a huge space of Surprise with few people around. You can see how the rest of the traffic besides Grand ave.

I am in the south of I10 .There were a couple of times i forgot to close my garage and slept through the night and everything still there in the morning . Quite a surprise isn't it?

From Goodyear, it is a piece of cake to get to the airport at 9AM.

THE "best schools" are not in your neighborhood either. They are in the far north. As in MN.

Brophy and Xavier have been doing fine for over 100 years. It's a 10 minute walk...

It's even a better ranked school if your future major happens to be swimming.

schools in goodyear rank as good as any other public system in the metro ....... household income is near the top of the spectrum .... percent of residents below the poverty level amongst the lowest in the metro .... crime rates fairly low

let's just chalk this one up to you not knowing what you're talking about

My sisters place is in Marley Park in Surprise. It is convenient to Luke AFB and well actually Goodyear. That's about it.

Three or 4 if you go down to Northern surface streets, no freeways, cross the raging Augua Fria making it tough to get out of Surprise heading anywhere East.

I would pick Goodyear over the 2 just for the ease of access to the freeways for the things I like to do.

You really don't say what your requirements or wishes are?

I don't buy that Surprise is 40 minutes from sky harbor. Even in the best possible scenario, meaning you don't get stuck behind a cement truck on the 303, and traffic was light on I-10, you're still looking at close to an hour. I had to make a trip to north surprise from chandler and back. It took 1:45 to get there, leaving chandler at 8:30. Much of it on the 303 due to all the cement trucks and semis. Not fun.
