I will start working around 21st Ave and Peoria Ave in Phoenix and I need advice on a nice apartment complex around that area. I have heard there are many good and bad parts of town. Anything within 20 min driving distance would be fine. Zip codes would also be great.

Thanks!

There are many apartments in and near the work area. That area is very close to the I-17 Black Canyon Freeway so you should look for something east of the freeway to avoid having to cross it when commuting to/from work. It gets busy during rush hour and is difficult at times. There are some apartment complexes within walking distance of the cross streets you mentioned, however I can’t remember the names of them.

21st ave and Peoria = Metroplex. I would not live in that area, period. It is a beautiful area right next to the mountain (Shaw butte), but geez, we've had bad experiences when we lived there. I wish decent arizonans would reclaim some of these f-ed up neighborhoods and run the scum out of this city. I'm so tired of the lowlifes and scumballs that are increasingly populating beautiful neighborhoods and turning them into dangerous slums. Personally, I'd find a house or apartment directly north of that area. maybe somewhere near the I-17 corridor, maybe around Union Hills or further north. You can always zip down I-17 to your place of work, it would still only be a few minutes away. No, I would not live anywhere near that messed up mall full of stupid youngsters walking around like zombies, looking at you like you're from another planet because you're "normal" and not part of their disgusting gang culture. ugh... the sad thing is that used to be a great neighborhood. but that was many moons ago.

If I were looking I'd look north, going both east and west of the area. Paradise Valley area will be about 20 mins away on surface streets and you could try looking into the corridor off the 101 heading west into the Arrowhead area.

i work in that area and absolutely would not rent in an apartment in the area .... no upside to it

I have a coworker who makes it from tempe in about 20-30 minutes so you could head south in that direction (17N in the morning is reverse commute)

i also have coworkers who are more to the north east (scottsdale, deer valley) .... also those in glendale around arrowhead

I lived in the arrowhead area when I first moved out and loved it .... many nice complexes, a lot of bars & restaurants and still fairly close to other parts of the city (10-15 minutes to westgate, 20 minutes to desert ridge/north scottsdale), etc

just note that there is no zipping down I-17 in the morning ... it gets fairly congested, although some of the surface streets move pretty well
