NEW YORK – Amazon.com Inc. said Friday it is hiring more than 15,500 people to fill temporary holiday jobs at shipping centers around the country, more than it hired last year.

The online retail giant said in news releases that it will hire more than 5,000 people in Phoenix and Goodyear, Ariz., and 4,000 in Pennsylvania at locations including Allentown, Hazleton and Lewisberry.

Phoenix is gaining jobs, good. I read that a lot of small businesses are planning on hiring in 2011 in the metro area. And, US Air, something on TV the other day about them hiring 500.

They must already have the regular staff, I assume. I might look into this even if just temporary. Amazon does killer business. I order from then a lot. My uncle carries mail for USPS and says they have been a Godsend (along with Netflix) for the postal service.

Thanks for the address.

Yea I used to use newegg.com exclusively, but since amazon is giving free prime membership to students, I've switched to them.

I buy stuff off Amazon all the time. I did not know they had opened distribution centers here in the Valley. LOL I wondered why items I ordered arrived so fast. Now I know.

I got a package from them today (another one comes tomo too). Both were shipped from Phoenix, the buckeye rd location. I live in AL, and have a prime membership, so shipping takes 2 days. If I lived locally, I would choose the ground shipping option. Ground would actually be faster, because 2 day shipping has to be delivered on that 2nd day.

Says who? I've ordered stuff from Amazon with 2nd day shipping and received it the next day before.
